Scott Scale 70 Mountain Bike Review

This means the primary difference between the £150 more expensive Scale 60 and the 70, are the air forks. Curved seatstays both aid compliance and increase tyre clearance From the get-go it was the bike that impressed us the most. Performance One of the biggest advantages that the Scott Scale 730 Plus has over its competition are the excellent Maxxis Rekon tyres. I have added a dropper post to my Scale 730 2017. The frame is the same on all Scales until you hit the carbon range, nice solid feel and no creaking. Overall you can't go wrong with this bike and it's a solid foundation for a second bike! The frame or fork or components or accessories have cosmetic blemishes. It's been a good, solid addition to my garage.

The frame is beautifully stiff without being really harsh — out of the saddle big efforts are well rewarded with an addictive dose of forward thrust and the smaller-diameter wheels genuinely help with tight manoeuvrability, while retaining most of the long-legged rolling characteristics of a 29in sibling. Pros: Great midrange components Shockingly good frame noticeably better than anything in its class. The bicycle has mechanical issues and a tune up is necessary. When you get it, the fork sucks, and the 3x setup was too big for me. The Scott Scale 970 29er Mens Hardtail Mountain Bike comes fully equipped with a RockShox fork, along Lockout technology to allow for multiple travel settings to adjust to riding conditions The 6061 aluminium frame is made from custom butted tubing and is designed to be lightweight, efficient and strong. Bicycle is free of major mechanical issues but may require some service, a tune up is recommended.

The Syncros wheelset is pretty good for stock. Interesting suggestion, not sure I want to be an early adopter for that technology tho it certainly does make installation convenient. Pros: Affordable, good components, decent fork, semi-light weight Cons: Shimano brakes need to be bled after first few rides Recommendation: This was my first 29er but I've ridden a Scale 910 29er and a Spark full suspension 710 27. Like many cyclists, I've been riding bikes since I was very young and despite now being just a little older, I love it just as much. The remaining componentry is a mix of high quality parts from Syncros, Maxxis and Wellgo. No service is required on any component, part, or accessory.

Recommendation: First 29er I've ridden and I'm happy with it. I've ridden them pretty hard and they are still as true as the day I bought the bike. But seeing as we chose Maxxis Rekons as our control tyres, we effectively gave the other bikes a leg up in this test. The frame if metal may have minor, aesthetic dings. With superbly balanced weight distribution you can push the 2.

Pridds, sounds like you have done the same thing but taken the cable out of the seatpost for an externally routed post? Now push the cable throug the inlet down to the bottom bracket and pull it out through the hole. As such, the Scale 730 has the most progressive geometry in this test. Wrestling with internal vs external routing choice as have spare space due to no front mech but looks very tight round the bottom bracket. If replacing cable the doing inner or outer cable one at a time makes it easier. Anyone got any tips or pics that would help? All models in the aluminium framed Scale range use a 6061 custom butted frame and come with hydraulic disc brakes. Of all the bikes in this test, the Scale is the one that feels the most like a long and low, arse-up, head-down, cross-country race bike.

Firstly the Scale Alloy 6061 frame has the superlight butted tubing that makes even less of an impact on the overall weight 12. This service is free, and included every time you buy a bike. Yes, we did drop the chain on several occasions, and given that all of the other bikes in this test have 1x drivetrains, Scott really is on the back foot here. Suspension and brakes may need to be serviced. Pedals needed to be replaced after first 50 miles.

Would work equally well for Reverb but with a little more bleed faffing. It is a good looking bike which stands up to scrutiny. This may be a little more travel than you might expect but given that the road ahead is always unpredictable it gives you that extra breathing space to soak up the big hits and rumble over rocky surfaces without feeling jarred or discombobulated. It gives great feel and doesn't sag and bounce when climbing. Some parts may require replacing, not to include front or rear shocks, wheels, shifters, front or rear derailleurs, braking systems, crank set or chainrings. They are easily the best rubber on test and because Scott mounts them on 35mm rims they have a really good profile and you get the additional weight savings of the narrower rims.

Features include dropouts, curved seatstays to improve compliance, and internal cable routing for a sleek modern finish. I got this bike from my local bike shop which gave me a half off discount and I traded in a Giant Revel a review on that will come later but I really like this bike and it felt right to me. Thankfully, things are simpler at the trail end of the spectrum, with just three unisex models and one Contessa version of the Scale Plus; all of which come with 2. Tires came on backwards, which makes me question quality control. The rest of the bike is built with decent-quality, dependable components.
